What it is
EchoLaser is a minimally invasive laser treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Under ultrasound guidance, fine optical fibres are inserted through the perineum into the prostate, where laser energy gently ablates the obstructing tissue. Healthy tissue is preserved. The prostate gradually reduces in size over the months that follow, relieving urinary symptoms.
The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic in an outpatient setting and typically takes under an hour. Patients return home the same day. Recovery is rapid and sexual function - including ejaculation - is preserved in the published clinical literature.
EchoLaser is well-suited to selected patients: men prioritising preservation of sexual function, those wishing to avoid general anaesthetic or major surgery, men where comorbidities such as anticoagulation make other approaches less suitable, and those who want to step off long-term BPH medication without committing to more invasive treatment. The procedure works across a range of prostate sizes and the EchoLaser platform is adaptable to individual anatomy.

FAQ
01What's the minimum commitment?
There's no minimum commitment on per-procedure rental - you book what you need. For hospitals with consistent volume we offer contract pricing that reduces per-case rates against a committed minimum, but per-procedure is genuinely flexible.
02What are typical lead times?
For confirmed bookings with reasonable notice, we typically deliver within a few working days. For urgent or last-minute requirements call us directly - we can often arrange same-week or short-notice cover depending on technician availability.
03Who covers indemnity?
We carry full clinical indemnity for our technicians and the operation of the equipment we supply. Your surgeons and hospital remain responsible for their own clinical decisions and conduct, as you'd expect.
04Do you provide training for our team if they're new to the procedure?
Our clinical technicians provide on-the-job orientation for theatre teams new to the technique, and they support every case directly so familiarity builds with each procedure. For more structured training pathways, we can advise on connections to manufacturer or specialist surgeon training programmes.
05Can we add other services to the same contract?
Yes - many hospitals use us for multiple urology services through a single contract. Multi-procedure packages typically deliver better per-case rates and consolidate operational arrangements.
06Do you supply everything needed for EchoLaser?
Yes. The kit list includes the EchoLaser diode laser generator with multi-fibre delivery, biplanar transrectal ultrasound system, treatment planning software interface, optical laser fibres, introducer needles, sterile gel and the direct procedure consumables for each case. Our clinical technician brings everything in, runs setup before the case, and operates the kit during the procedure.
07Which patients is EchoLaser suitable for?
EchoLaser is best suited to selected patients with BPH where preserving sexual function matters, where a local-anaesthetic outpatient pathway is preferred, where comorbidities such as anticoagulation make other approaches less suitable, and where a less invasive treatment is appropriate to the prostate size and clinical picture. The treatment planning software supports case selection by mapping fibre placement and safety distances to each prostate's individual anatomy.
08What is the current NICE position on TPLA?
NICE published HealthTech Guidance HTG737 (formerly IPG798) in January 2025. The guidance distinguishes between two patient groups: for people who cannot have TURP or other transurethral procedures, NICE recommends TPLA can be used in the NHS with special arrangements for clinical governance, consent and audit, while more evidence is generated. For people who can have TURP or other transurethral procedures, NICE recommends TPLA only as part of a formal research study, reflecting NICE's view that the evidence base for routine NHS use in this group is still developing. EchoLaser TPLA is CE-marked, established in clinical practice across continental Europe, and has a growing published evidence base including peer-reviewed prospective studies. In UK private practice the decision sits with the consultant and patient, informed by the consultant's clinical judgement on suitability, the published clinical literature, and the patient's circumstances and preferences.
09What does "per-session" pricing mean?
A session is a defined block of clinic time - typically a half-day or full-day - in which several EchoLaser cases are run consecutively. Per-session pricing covers the equipment, technician and direct consumables for that session at a fixed rate, regardless of exact case count up to a defined maximum. It's an efficient model for consultants running batched outpatient clinics. We tailor the structure to your typical session shape.
